  • 2 Tablespoons of Vegetable Oil or a softened Vegan Butter

  • 1 Warm Cup of Water (Not Above 120 Degrees Fahrenheit)

  • As well as, three tablespoons of Warm Water

  • 4.5 Cups of Chickpea Flour

  • ½ Cup of Granulated Sugar

  • As well as, a pinch of Granulated Sugar

  • 1 ½ Teaspoon of Salt

  • 6 Tablespoons of Coconut Oil (using more if you’d like)

  • An Assortment of Wilton’s Food Coloring (think primary colors)

Preparation Time:

This recipe will take approximately 5 hours to prepare.

Servings and Calories:

This recipe prepares 1 loaf of Rainbow Challah Bread. If this bread is divided into twelve slices, each slice contains an estimated 257.7 calories, that is if one extra tablespoon of Coconut Oil is used to coat the dough.

Directions:

Step 1. In a large mixing bowl combine the active dry yeast and the separate pinch of granulated sugar.

Step 2. From the large mixing bowl in Step 1, fold the cup of warm water into the yeast mixture. Let this sit for 10 minutes. Then add two tablespoons of melted Coconut Oil.

Step 3. In a separate mixing bowl combine three tablespoons of melted Coconut Oil with your remaining warm water and baking powder.

Step 4. In a different large mixing bowl, combine 3.5 Cups of Chickpea Flour with Salt, and ½ cup of Granulated Sugar. Move the Coconut Oil and Active Yeast Mixtures to this one dry ingredient bowl.

Step 5. Once the dough has become flexible and smooth begin to slowly mix in as much as 1 cup of additional Chickpea Flour. Knead the dough until it becomes less sticky.

Step 6. Partition the dough into as many color sections you would like. Dye each partition individually with a color of your choosing.

Step 7. Let the Challah Dough sit for two hours. Then, once the dough has doubled in size, begin to knead the stretchy dough and braid it in your desired fashion. Let the bread sit braided for an additional hour.

Step 8. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 9. Brush the braided dough with Coconut Oil and bake until hollow. This usually takes anywhere from 20-35 minutes.

Step 10. Cool the Warm Challah and Enjoy!
