Cash or Trash: Jessica Rates Protein Powders

Protein is an essential macromolecule responsible for muscle growth and recovery, important in maintaining strong, healthy bones. Although most of your protein should come from your three main meals, supplements such as protein powders can help us all crack a dent in our daily needs. Some people need more or less protein; I need one hundred grams of protein a day to maintain bone density and muscle. It can be hard to hit my protein needs, so often, they come at the hand of supplementation (protein powders). I receive many messages about my protein recommendations, so I decided to order lots of different protein powders and give you my take. Is it cash or trash? (I do not make money from linked products, but created this ranking by high demand).

I bought this product in-store, and it blew me away! The macros are great for this protein powder, and there are only seven net carbs per serving. Comparable to Orgain’s twenty-one grams of carbohydrates! The product is gluten-free, soy-free, allergy-friendly, and packs in lots of different vitamins and minerals. This product is my go-to, and I recommend you make the switch if you already haven’t! The vanilla flavor is not overly sweet and blends easily into almond and cashew milk from my experience. This product is one of those protein powders that are hard to match on the market.

This protein powder is also a swear-by! I like to use protein powder in recipes to add protein, but primarily in protein shakes. The powder is not gritty nor chalky in shakes and recipes and stunts great nutrition. I was a little wary because one scoop contains 150 calories, but the single scoop is just around the size of two orgain scoops. The serving size of protein powder provides an excellent ratio of healthy calories to protein. A typical orgain shake could contain 250 calories per serving and come in with two grams less protein! This product is low in saturated fats and personally helped me mitigate some uncomfortable bloating side effects after consumption. The product is sweet and reminds me of an authentic french vanilla flavor.

This is one of the cleaner protein powders on the market. Although this product is moderate on a caloric scheme, one serving of this powder can knock someone out of ketosis. One serving provides 21g of carbohydrates, our preferred energy source. This macro isn’t something to fear but consider. The saturated fat content is low per serving at (0.5g) which opens our allowance of just about <22g/day. This product is rich in vitamins and nutrients, so I recommend it if you’d like to reap those benefits. I ordered the vanilla powder four times from this company in the past, although it is a good product, I did so out of convenience. Vegan protein powders are costly, and orgain is one of the cheaper powders on the market from my research. The flavor can become bitter and overly sweet at times, but I recommend this product.

I enjoyed this protein powder, and it provides a lot of crucial nutrients and vitamins we need each day. Although this product is one of the better protein powders, compared to other options on the market, it has a high calorie-to-protein ratio. Essentially, this means that you are getting more calories for a smaller amount of protein: this depends on your journey to determine whether this is a product for you. A single protein shake can help you in weight-loss or weight-gain goals depending on how you structure the other meals of the day. This product is fair on a cost basis and brings a lot of healthy dietary fiber (which more meat-eaters need) in each serving. The flavor is excellent and reminds me of something that would not be a fitness drink (think milkshake). I didn’t experience any abnormal clumping from the powder, but the product did not mitigate some of the bloating side effects, as did the MRM powder.

Although orgain ingredients are very clean, I would suggest avoiding this flavor. The chocolate tastes like cardboard/chalk (think protein bar), and the flavor is artificial. I didn’t have very high expectations going into this product because chocolate-based protein powders have been a miss for me lately. The calorie to protein ratio is ok, not the best, but it is satiating. If you like rich, almost dark chocolate flavors, maybe look into this product. Although the product stunts excellent nutrition for the grand majority, I would avoid it at all costs.
